Bali, Indonesian archipelago, Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Hobart (Tasmania) & Sidney, Australia.
After leaving autumnal tints in Helsinki, our memorable expedition in a tropical context began on10/10/24 in the Island of Bali. The expedition ship which awaited us then began an unforgettable journey through the varied, colourful and friendly cultures of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. After a gentle crossing of the South Pacific ocean, our expedition ended in a very different culture – the port of Hobart, in Tasmania: a modern, urban metropolis. In Hobart, we were also introduced to the painful realities of the Tasmanian Penitentiaries to which Britain had earlier sent convicts to populate its new colony of Australia. Unfortunately, very few aboriginal Tasmanians remain: a small community lives on remote Cape Barren Island. However, an inspiring contrast were our hikes in beautiful National Parks, as well as a journey to remote Flinders Island. After meeting old friends in Canberra and admiring the many architectural and historical wonders of Sidney, we left Australia on 15/12/24
