Malawi – Africa

The Warm Heart of Africa: The rhythm of life in Malawi revolves around family and community – with warm hospitality towards all….During many years of work in environmental education and conservation projects, Alison has been inspired by figures of men and women living their lives, observing their traditional masks and thoughtful faces…often evoking ancient myths and our shared  African roots.

The African Rhythms Series and My African Ancestors – have been inspired by watching and working with the women of Malawi, Africa. These art-works reflect both the grace, humour and rhythms of a woman’s daily life: using a mixed media of materials – including collage, hand-made paper, linen thread, charcoal, ink, water-colour and fabric – these images seek to express some of these qualities of Malawian  women.
